Bedrooms They need to be able to accommodate the Camp PALS one-to-one model. In this respect, rooms need to have an even number of beds, or be able to be furnished in a way that provide for an even number of individuals in a room. Unless a room’s particular quality merits more than 2 individuals in a room, one pair per room (2 individuals) should be strived for. Bathrooms Ample bathrooms need to be available. Given camper ability levels, showering and using the facilities can take some time. In order for camp to remain on schedule, it is imperative that there are enough showers and toilettes available. Finally, all showers need to be individual, with a protective barrier between. Dining A dining facility must be available at the facility that is able to provide at minimum 2 hot meals per day. The cafeteria should be a reasonable distance from the dormitory given camper mobility issues. Activity spaces The number of spaces necessary is directly dependent on the size of the program. At minimum, a camp would need unimpeded access to a field and an indoor activity room. Access to an aquatics center, additional indoor rooms and fields, and a theater could be advantageous. Security & Health The facility must have established security and health care practices. Although the camp may be responsible for providing its own triage care, the campsite must have available resources to assist in all of the following situations: lost camper, intruder, fire, flood, cardiac arrest, choking, other medical emergencies. There should also be a hospital within a reasonable distance, given the particular medical needs of campers. Definitive Scheduling & Costs It is imperative that a facility be able to commit agreed-upon resources and notify the camp of all anticipated costs in advance. |
