Purpose of Trips within the Context of Camp

Trips are considered to be a valuable part of the camp program.  They demonstrate the feasibility of integration outside of the utopic campsite environment.  They provide all participants with fun, safe opportunities to have new experiences.  They are not to be construed as the focal component of Camp, which needs to remain the activities of integration on the campsite.  Restated, trips are supplementary and should not replace the main camp program. 

Travel

It is necessary to ensure reliable, safe transport to and from the destination.  A combination of buses and vans can be used to transport campers.  No private vehicles should be used.  See transportation for more details.

Safety

When leaving the campsite, particular attention needs to be paid to concerns of camper safety and well-being.  Many uncertainties are present, and it is ultimately the responsibility of the camp leaders to ensure that the trip is appropriate and safe for all participants.    

Types of Transportation needed

Once camp begins, staff is no longer allowed to operate personal vehicles. The camp will need to rent vehicles that can be operated for the duration of camp.  The camp will also need to charter buses to transport the camp on scheduled trips. 

Automobile Insurance

The camp should make sure that whoever operates a motor vehicle during camp is covered by a camp insurance policy.
